The following questionnaires include those to be asked to the Government, and you are kindly requested to answer them as much as possible.
1. What parts of the governmental inspection are entrusted to ABS, and how are the grounds therefor specified in the articles of the laws and regulations?
In Japan, the inspections except those for the life-saving appliances, etc. for the NK-classed ships are omitted. In the near future, the inspections for the life-saving appliances will be omitted.

2. What are the testing organizations/agencies whose test reports are accepted by ABS? On what items are they accepted?
3. As an example, are different standards applied to the fire extinguishers for land use and for ship use? Please inform us of sharing and mutual agreement of the USCG, ABS and UL.
4. How are the inspections of the radio equipment on hoard the ships shared between ABS, USCG and FCC (Federal Communications Commissions)?
5. The GMDSS will be mandatorily applied to any ships by 1999, and how do you expect the change in the inspection amount associated with the mounting of this system?
6. Please explain the system for the rationalization of the inspections by ABS.
7. We wish to have one copy of the test standards for the type approval, if any.
8. Please inform us of any future movement in the deregulation or further regulation in the USA.
